The gift to create form, from the mist of imagination, is pure magic!

Art and me

My art works are an excercise in exploration of the self, as a creature of nature. An evolution through understanding of my physical, sensual and spiritual needs. They are expressions of personal confusions, visions, emotions and realizations. They are not constricted by tyrannical rules or inhibitions. On one hand they are projections of my take on worldly matters, which often baffle and trouble me, and on the other they are personifications of my lunacies, fantasies, magical dreams, wicked thoughts and mischievous self expressions. Through their untamed and fantastic imagery, they are intimately mine, and ultimately me.

My quest to find a suitable medium, to express myself, started with the nibbling and chewing of the lead pencils, much before I knew what they should be actually used for! Some how I still remember the taste of the wood in my mouth and the infinite number of pokes I used to receive from the splintered ends! Well, slowly I figured out that I could put the hard, black tasteless core of the wooden cylinder to good use and make markings on certain easily available surfaces, like walls. It was also a good way to draw attention to myself, when being ignored by parents and siblings, though not always favourable attention! Scribbling, while day-dreaming, was my favourite activity to escape boredom. Instead of balancing chemical equations, I used to unravel the secrets of a perfect symmetry. I used to love biology, geometry and art, where I could put my romance with the pencil to a good use!

So, it was inevitable that I became an artist. During my graduation, from S.V. College of Fine Arts, Hyderabad, I fell in love with the translucent water colour and the dark etched lines of an ink pen. The pencil became my friend, philosopher and guide. I experience a sense of freedom and fulfillment when I spread water colour on a blank sheet of handmade paper and watch it dry! I feel a sense of power and creative force, ready to erupt, when I sweep the nib of my pen to etch a line over it. It’s magic, something close to spiritual bliss.

I graduated as a Bachelor in Fine Arts and everyone advised me to do my Masters in Painting. I was unable to do so for various reasons which are worth writing an autobiography about. But for now, this will have to suffice. I worked as a graphic designer for six years, in Hyderabad, Mumbai and Delhi. The Digital designing tools became a passion for me. The possibilities were immense and you can see examples of such work on my website www.rudrarts.webs.com The effortless experimentation with Adobe Photoshop gave me creative insight from a different perspective. It helped me grow as an artist. Someday I wish to do a lot of creative work using that versatile medium.

My journey as an artist began a long time ago, but I have realized its destination only recently! And this blog is both the quest and the trophy for that artistic Odyssey.
